German energy storage company Sonnen is manufacturing lithium-ion batteries in Adelaide, using the old GM Holden factory.
The new factory will be the Sonnen’s central shipping facility for the Asia and South Pacific Region. The announcement came after the South Australia Liberal Government outlined details about the Home Battery Scheme, that will offer $100 million in low-interest loans to install battery storage in their homes and help households looking to invest in solar energy options for their homes.
Over the next five years, with the new production facility expected 50,000 energy storage systems manufactured and assembled with prices from $7,000 to $30,000. The transition will create 430 new jobs in manufacturing and installation jobs in the state.
