Project Overview
In July 2012, Leadsun was approached by City of Casey to investigate replacing six existing early generation solar lights along the Tooradin Jetty that had only been in operation for six years. The old technology had become unreliable in performance as was causing safety concerns for the council. Leadsun was able to provide a long-term solution using our dependable lithium battery technology.

Rather than replacing the old acid batteries in the base of the poles, which would be very expensive, Leadsun was able to provide a solution that enabled the newly developed AE6 Series solar lights to be retrofitted to the existing pole structure so no new poles were required. Modern LED lighting was also adopted in lieu of the existing fluorescent type lights that were extremely inefficient.
Leadsun Solution
- 6 x AE6S120 solar engines
- Solar Module Size = 120W
- LED output = 20w
- P Category Lighting Compliance = P3
- Lithium-ion batteries providing 10+ years maintenance-free life span
Leadsun lighting system design fully complied to ASNZ 1158.3.1 lighting standards, and also consisted of adaptive lighting control using PIR motion sensor and a programmable Smart Controller that could customise lighting output levels from dusk to dawn to suit the council’s requirements. The whole ‘plug & play’ AE6 solar lighting system, which includes the advanced battery, is positioned at the top of the pole which is out of reach of people and potential damaging storm water.
The end result was a much improved lighting system that provided an evenly distributed light along the jetty from end to end, ensuring that both fishermen and pedestrians have safe lighting from dusk to dawn.
Eight years on, and thanks to Leadsun’s patented battery management system and best-in-class technology, these lights are still shining bright and have not required any service or repairs.
Council Officer Effie Stephens (Technical Officer of Transport Operations) said at the time she was impressed with the ease and speed of how the solar lights were installed and the long-term reliability aspect of using Leadsun’s new AE6 lithium battery powered solar lights.
