Project Background
Tarneit Skies Retirement Village, located west of Melbourne, offers independent living villas for those seeking a secure and flexible lifestyle during retirement. With shopping centres, freeways and bus stops nearby, village management sought to improve the lighting near the main entrance to increase pedestrian safety and improve village accessibility for both residents and visitors.

Solar street lighting - illuminating the concourse in the evenings
Tarneit Skies retirement community boasts a wide range of amenities from hair salons to golfing courses, offering a versatile, socially connected facility where residents welcome family and friends. Contrary to the pleasant ambiance, floodlights failed to sympathetically or effectively illuminate the main entrance car parking spaces and inconveniently spilled light into neighbouring properties.
In addition, inadequate or non-existent illumination at the entrance gate and information board, footpaths and access ramp created wayfinding and pedestrian safety concerns.
Budget management calls for economical solution
The need for better lighting was undeniably justified, but a tight
budget limited viable solutions. With several areas requiring lighting,
grid-powered options were going to be too expensive due to the
required trenching and cabling. Plus, the financial risk of cost blowout
from unforeseen digging problems was formidable.

Multi-staged lighting installation
Lavande was delighted with the sustainability and seamless installation Leadsun solar lighting solutions offered. To illuminate the front entrance, car parks, footpath, and access-ramp in style, they opted for five contemporary FREEDOM solar street lights, with black tapered poles and elegant curved outreach, to complement existing aesthetics. The lowerable hinge poles and EDGE wireless monitoring and control also make installation and maintenance a breeze.
To accommodate funding constraints, the project was split into two stages, ensuring all lighting needs were addressed. The solar street lighting is programmed to illuminate at full brightness for five hours after dusk then dimmed with PIR motion activation until dawn.
Evening friendly entrance with FREEDOM solar street lighting
With no ongoing energy charges, Leadsun FREEDOM solar street lights provide continual cost-saving while ensuring residents and visitors can enter the premises with ease and feel safe walking and driving in the evening. Additionally, the new lighting has improved the appeal of the village, with anticipation of generating more interest and increasing occupancy levels.
