With only internal solar lighting and USB energy kits currently installed, the Kokoda College located in the remote village of Kou Kou was missing an outdoor lighting solution to illuminate the entrance and pathway areas, which were previously causing security problems for students and staff in the evening.
- 12 x AE2 All-In-One solar light systems
- 15W Solar Module & 10W LED
- PIR Motion Sensor
- 30 x PBOX indoor solar light kits
- Lithium-ion batteries provides 10+ years maintenance-free life span
Transporting the solar lights to the remote village of Kou Kou was a challenge in itself that initially involved two Leadsun representatives carrying two AE2 lights within back packs 96Kms along the famous Kokoda Trek to Kokoda Village. However, with the support of PNG Air and a team of locals on the ground, we managed to transport an additional 12 AE2 All-In-One solar lights to the college and have them installed on makeshift wooden poles crafted by the local villagers.
Providing this solar lighting technology to help create a safer learning environment and improving welfare for children within a remote location of the world has been a rewarding and positive experience. This small contribution demonstrates the extraordinary potential of what solar powered lighting can do in being able to easily and cost-effectively light up important community spaces where there is lack of electricity. Coupled with Leadsun’s robust, modular and long-lasting solar lighting technology, Leadsun is proud to have provided this remote community in PNG an outdoor lighting solution that will last well over 10 years without any electricity fees or costly maintenance.
Working with Matt and the team at Leadsun has made a huge difference to the community at our Kokoda College. Located in remote Kou Kou Village in Oro Province with no access to the electricity grid, solar is the only safe, environmentally friendly and reliable option for light after the sun goes down. The installation of Leadsun’s street lights illuminates the campus, providing our staff and students with a safe environment to move freely about after dark, and also protecting our buildings and facilities.
We value our partnership with Leadsun and look forward to it continuing as we bring street lighting to other off-grid villages in the mountainous Kokoda region. Tenkyu tru for your generous support.
